Description

This grows well in a sunny location.

Plant 10cms apart and allow leaves to develop.

Leave plants until the third year by which time they will be big enough to harvest.

Do this by cutting 1cm to 2cms above the base, leaving the bulbs in the ground to grow again.

Additional information

Season

The plant stem starts growing in early autumn and reaches its maximum size by spring. It produces a head of bulbils which ripen over the summer by which time the plant starts to die back.

Position

They grow well in a sunny or partially shaded location.

Soil

Cool, well-draining soil.

Planting

Plant 10cms apart.

Harvesting period

Perennial leeks can be harvested between late autumn and spring.

Edible part of the plant

If you want to keep the plants as perennials then simply cut off the stems at ground level and leave the bulbs in the ground. The green stems will then regrow. Cook as you would annual leeks.
