Description

This spinach variety likes to grow in full sun and well-drained soil.

It has weak stems so won’t grow high but trails along the ground.

Keep it well-watered for higher yields. Harvest the young leaves and leaf tips from July onwards then cook as you would spinach.

Plants may not survive temperatures below 0 Celsius but will readily self-seed the following year.

Additional information

Season

Plants may not survive temperatures below 0 Celsius but will readily self-seed the following year.

Position

This spinach variety likes to grow in full sun.

Soil

This plant likes well-drained soil. Keep it well-watered for higher yields.

Planting

Plant 30-45cm apart and set them in hills similar to squash as this will allow the weak stem to sprawl. Space hills or rows 60-90cm apart.

Harvesting period

Cut the young leaves and tender leaf tips as they give the best flavour. This cut-and-come-again technique will encourage growth throughout the summer.

Edible part of the plant

Leaves can be cooked as you would the more common perpetual spinach/leaf beet
