If you like spinach then you’ll love this! Not only is it delicious but is classed as a superfood, containing Vitamins A, C and K.It is the parent of familiar annuals such as beetroot, chard and perpetual spinach. It can be found growing wild on the coasts of Europe and western Asia.

| Planting | It can reach a height of 50-60cms (but gets taller with flower heads). Plant 30cms apart. |
| Harvesting period | It can be harvested from April to October (although the best time is May when the young leaves are at their most tender). The plant flowers between July and September. |
| Edible part of the plant | Cook as you would spinach or chard. In addition the flowers can be used in salads. |
